چکیده

This paper presents the results of the development of an autonomous mobile robot, designed according to some new concepts established in this eld during the last decade. These principles can be found in other work based on the constructivist approach, arti cial life, subsumption architecture and other bottom-up methodologies. These ideas have been applied to the complete robot design, spanning from the shape of the robot to the sensors, from the electronics to the software control structure. By this way we have developed what we call an "Application Speci c Mobile Robot" (ASMR). The target application is a domestic autonomous vacuum cleaner. Despite the actual limitations of the nal robot, this work shows how this methodology can bring many interesting results.

Surface Covering Algorithms for Semiautonomous Vacuum Cleaner

The work is focused on creation of algorithms for housekeeping hovering robot. The project’s aim was to design and implement algorithms of movement of autonomous (or semiautonomous) vacuum cleaner, that would be able to work inside of a flat, but not free of obstacles workspaces. In the paper several proposed algorithms of surface covering are discussed. The two algorithms were selected as the ...

Making a Clean Sweep: Behavior Based Vacuuming

This position paper discusses how the techniques and building blocks in use at the Georgia Tech Mobile Robot Lab could be used to construct an autonomous vacuum cleaner. Previous research at Georgia Tech using the Autonomous Robot Architecture (AURA)[2, has demonstrated robust operation in dynamic and partially modeled environments[3, 12]. Although much of this work has been deployed and tested...

Lessons learned from robotic vacuum cleaners entering the home ecosystem

This article considers the suitability of current robots designed to assist humans in accomplishing their daily domestic tasks. With several million units sold worldwide, robotic vacuum cleaners are currently the figurehead in this field. As such, we will use them to investigate the following key question: Could a robot possibly replace the hand-operated vacuum cleaner? One must consider not ju...

Smart Vacuum Cleaner – An Autonomous Location-Aware Cleaning Device

For many devices in a ubiquitous computing environment the ability to recognize their present position is an essential feature. Nowadays, stationary or mobile Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) [1] antennas are often used to detect the position of mobile RFID-tagged objects (e.g., RFID gates in logistics; RFID combined with motion trackers in Magic Touch [2]). In this poster, we present a pr...

Selected Prototypes of Moral Machines

for the talk for “Formalising Robot Ethics”, ISAIM 2018 More and more autonomous and semi-autonomous machines such as intelligent software agents, specific robots, specific drones and self-driving cars make decisions that have moral implications. Machine ethics as a discipline examines the possibilities and limits of moral and immoral machines. It does not only reflect ideas but develops artifa...
